Aljazzi made a striking impression on her only start a two-year-old when victorious at Newmarket. She later ran a creditable race in the 1,000 Guineas on only her third start before returning to winning ways in the Listed Dick Hern Fillies’ Stakes at Haydock.
The homebred daughter of Shamardal progressed through the stakes ranks for Marco Botti thereafter, notably when successful in the Group 3 Atalanta Stakes at Sandown and the Listed Snowdrop Fillies’ Stakes at Kempton. She also ran a brave second to Qemah in the Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Aljazzi returned to Royal Ascot to go one better in the Duke Of Cambridge the following June, scything through the field to win as she pleased by nearly four lengths with Group 1 winner Hydrangea well adrift in eighth.
Group 1 races are now on the agenda for the rest of 2018, starting with the Prix Rothschild at Deauville.
Aljazzi represents two generations of Blue Diamond breeding as the first foal out of Nouriya, another stud homebred who carried our colours to victory in the Listed John Musker Stakes and Listed EBF Lyric Stakes.
In turn, Nouriya, by Danehill Dancer, is a half-sister to the Listed-placed Lady Nouf, also a member of the Blue Diamond band, and Balmoral Handicap winner Yuften, who also finished second past the post in the Prix Jean Prat.
