Decorated Knight again to the fore at Goffs February Sale

Another notable auction result came the way of Decorated Knight at the Goffs February Sale on Tuesday in the sale of a colt out of Bella Bella who made €38,000 to renowned pinhooker Willie Browne.

Signing as Jamie B Bloodstock, Browne was effusive in his praise for both colt and stallion, telling the EBN:

“He’s a very nice sort and the three-year-old, Mr Mooj, is with Joseph O’Brien and won his maiden at Dundalk last Friday. He looks useful and could do a bit more for the page.

The sire was a top class racehorse and is a very well-bred horse too, so he’s got to have every chance.”

In addition to Mr Mooj, the colt is a half-brother to the stakes-placed Courageous as well as the dam of last year’s Listed Bosra Sham Stakes heroine Mild Illusion. He was bred by vendor Yeomanstown Lodge Stud and Bsl out of dual winner Bella Bella, a Sri Pekan half-sister to the dam of Group 2 winners Fairy Queen and Tashawak.

Decorated Knight’s first foals were extremely well received last year, selling for up to 190,000gns. The colt in question is out of Group 3 winner Princess Noor and was bought by Jamie Railton at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale.

Decorated Knight’s foals also sold for up to €66,000 at the Goffs November Sale.

Therefore, Decorated Knight looks excellent value at the €9,000 that he is due to command this season at the Irish National Stud.

Decorated Knight won eight races including the Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes, Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup and Group 1 Jebel Hatta. By Galileo, he is out of Pearling, a sister to Giant’s Causeway.

“I have complete belief in Decorated Knight,” Imad Al Sagar explained to the Racing Post last November. “He’s a very special horse with a very special pedigree – his close relation Gleneagles is one of the most successful progeny of Galileo so it’s a stallion’s family.

“I myself have sent him 28 mares and we have some very nice foals. You can see his stamp on them – they’re similar to what he was like as a foal.

“If I don’t believe in him, why should others? Now I have to choose the trainers carefully to give him the maximum possibility of success.”
