Deserved maiden win for Miss Laila
A deserved maiden win came the way of promising two-year-old Miss Laila on Thursday when the Richard Hughes-trained filly ran out the game winner of the 7f opener at Chepstow.
The daughter of Dark Angel travelled ‘like the best horse in the race’ and held on bravely from Washington Blue under Shane Kelly to make it third time lucky.
“Miss Laila loves a bit of cut in the ground and really stuck her neck out to win,” Richard Hughes told the Racing Post. “She stays well so further will not be an issue and she will go down the nursery route now.”
Bought for £50,000 by Tony Nerses from Cooneen Stud at the GoffsUK Premier Sale, Miss Laila is out of Sister Red, a Diamond Green half-sister to Group 3 Select Stakes winner Red Badge. It is the further Cheveley Park Stud family of Red Bloom, Red Camellia and this season’s exciting two-year-old Senator.
Miss Laila was bred in Ireland by Wicklow Bloodstock.
