Green Fortune strikes at Yarmouth
Talented homebred Green Fortune returned to winning ways at Yarmouth on Tuesday when striking in the 6f handicap for Robert Cowell and John Egan.
Successful twice last season as a two-year-old for William Haggas, Green Fortune has steadily come to hand for Cowell this season and looked some way back to his best on Tuesday, quickening well in the first time visor to win cosily from Merhoob.
“He won well,” said John Egan. “He won better than the winning distance suggests. The visor probably made him concentrate a bit more and he ended up doing it well.”
Green Fortune is the third living foal out of our Queen Mary Stakes runner-up Shyrl, an Acclamation granddaughter of Group 3 Prix de Flore heroine Benicia. Shyrl was purchased by Tony Nerses for 70,000gns from Bansha House Stables at the 2008 Tattersalls Craven Sale and has consistently justified that investment, not only as a Royal Ascot two-year-old but as the dam of Raucous; her second living foal, Raucous was third behind our homebred Ajaya in the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes, has been multiple Group-placed since.
Shyrl has a two-year-old sister to Raucous, by Dream Ahead, and a yearling filly by Kingman. She has been covered this season by Exceed And Excel.
Green Fortune is from the second crop of our Diadem Stakes winner Sayif, who formerly stood at Llety Farms. Sayif is also the sire of our talented sprinter Gulliver.
