Hilario off the mark at Kempton
Hilario produced a fine performance on Friday to break his maiden at the second attempt at Kempton Park.
Settled on the inside by Andrea Atzeni, Hilario showed a fine turn of foot once the gap came and although headed in the final furlong by Dubai One, fought back bravely to deny that rival and win by a head. The pair pulled well clear of the third Etikaal.
Trained by Charlie Hills, Hilario is a half-brother to two high-class sprinters in The Tin Man, winner of the Hackwood Stakes, and Deacon Blues, the champion older sprinter of 2011. The son of Sepoy was bred by Elizabeth Grundy out of Persario, a winning Bishop Of Cashel three-parts sister to the high-class miler Warningford.
Hilario was a £160,000 yearling purchase by Tony Nerses out of the Newsells Park Stud draft at last year’s GoffsUK Premier Sale.
