Homebred Aljazzi makes perfect start to career at Newmarket
Aljazzi gave us something to look forward to over the winter when running out the highly impressive winner of her debut at Newmarket on Saturday.
Sent off at 8/1 in what is a traditionally hot maiden, the daughter of Shamardal only had to be shaken up by Andrea Atzeni to win readily by 4 1/2 lengths.
“We always thought Aljazzi was a nice filly,” trainer Marco Botti told the Racing Post, “but to win like that on this ground was pretty impressive. She´ll make a lovely 3yo.”
Aljazzi is the first foal out of our talented mare Nouriya, winner of the Listed John Musker Stakes at Yarmouth and Listed Lyric Stakes at York during her racing days with Sir Michael Stoute. The daughter of Danehill Dancer is out of Blue Diamond foundation mare Majestic Sakeena, also the dam of the Group 1-placed Yuften, Listed-placed Lady Nouf and recent winner Bella Nouf. Majestic Sakeena sadly died earlier this year but Saturday’s result suggested that Nouriya is already well on the way to filling her void.
Nouriya also has a yearling filly by Galileo, a colt foal by Henrythenavigator and is in foal to Australia.
