Justineo back to winning ways at Newmarket
It was great to see our homebred Justineo, a favourite of the stud and Roger Varian’s yard, gain a confidence boosting win at Newmarket on Friday evening.
Justineo has held his own in stakes company throughout his career, winning the Scarbrough Stakes at Doncaster and running placed in the King George and Gimcrack Stakes. Friday’s victory was his fifth in 34 starts and marked the 18th occasion that he has filled the frame.
Justineo was always in command in Friday’s conditions race, travelling well throughout under Andrea Atzeni before holding off Barracuda Boy to score a shade cosily by a three-quarters of a length.
“The race couldn´t have been better scripted for Justineo,” Atzeni told the Racing Post. “He likes to dominate and liked the ground.”
The son of Oasis Dream was bred by Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar out of Loulwa, 370,000gns yearling purchase by Tony Nerses who won the River Eden Stakes at Lingfield. Justineo is her first foal and followed by the winners Elhaam and Bella Lulu, the recent easy winner of her maiden at Doncaster.
Loulwa, a Montjeu half-sister to high-class sprinter Galeota, has a two-year-old colt by Sea The Stars named Askari in training with Roger Varian. She also has a yearling colt by Dansili and foaled a full brother to Justineo earlier this year.
Loulwa is back in foal to Oasis Dream.
